About Us

Our History

CORIN-Asia Foundation was originated from the Coastal Resources Institute (CORIN) which affiliated with the Prince of Songkla University,Thailand. CORIN was established in 1989 as a collaboration between the Thai government, represented by the National Environment Agency, and the United States government, represented by USAID, under the Management of Natural Resources Project (MANRES). The objective was to enhance the potential of Thailand in coastal resource management in response to the global community in line with Agenda 21. Since 2008, CORIN was separated from the Prince of Songkla University and became a non-profit organization under the name CORIN-Asia Foundation. Prof. Dr. Somsak Boromthanarat was the founder and the first president.

Our approach

Main goal and Strategies
The main goal of CORIN-Asia Foundation is to balance the coexistence between coastal and marine resources, wetlands and people in surrounding communities.

To achieve the goal, the foundation employs strategies of partnership and acting as a facilitator between organizations at various levels and communities, strategies for promoting and developing local potential, strategies for building knowledge, and strategies for integrating technology and innovation with local wisdom in each area, country and region.

Our Mission
  • Developing policy frameworks, planning, and participatory operational models for coastal resource management, community management, and participatory resource management.
  • Developing decision-making mechanisms with local administrative organizations and communities, acting as facilitators between communities and organizations or agencies at various levels in managing and finding sustainable resource utilization methods.
  • Collecting and applying works, experiences, technologies, and innovations related to coastal resource management and community management into an open learning laboratory to expand to all sectors in Thailand and in partnership with areas in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific Islands.
